The Best Day of My Life!!

Let's take a look at the absolute best day of my life.  This requires a time machine, but it is worth it.

Welcome to 1985!!   A time when fashion was a bit questionable, the movies were far from high tech, and the weather was actually on point with the season.  Now to really understand the best day we are gonna have to start a couple of days early, December 10, 1985.  A married couple are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child, which at this point is 2 weeks late and not showing any signs of wanting to grace them with her presence.  Dee, over 9 months pregnant and showing every bit of it; clothing becoming very limited, sandals and a jacket that barely covered her belly, but walking as much as possible trying everything to convince her baby it is time.  The only thing she had for dinner was a vanilla milk shake.

December 11, 1985, Dee tells her husband when he wakes up she feels funny and she thinks their child is finally on the move.  With the threat of icy roads they make their way to the hospital for the long wait on their child's arrival.  Contractions weren't in full force for hours and only after being given some medication to help them along.  Thoughts and worries about the baby being in distress were not helping the waiting game, but Dee's husband Johnny was every bit helpful he could be.

Finally after 2 extra weeks of waiting, 30 hours of labor, and worrying about a baby in distress their daughter decided to make an appearance.  December 12, 1985 at 1:48 am Jessica was born; hey that's me!  This is the best day of my life, when I finally stopped making them wait, or as my dad says jokingly, "The day the real trouble began!"

Now the rest of the world wasn't exactly aware of the awesomeness that had just been welcomed in, but they should have.  Their fashion was very different from how it is today, their movies not so hot on the tech scale, toys cheaper than they are today, and weather that actually knows what season it was in.

Fashion

According to Elle Magazine's December 1985 issue a huge scarf and lots of layers was the stuff to wear.

"With its pastel palette and layered, knit-heaving offerings, Esprit and Esprit Sport were every '80s girl's go-to for mall-chic casual wear."

Bangs and large earrings everywhere.  Can honestly say I am glad we got out of these fads!

Music

The top song

Broken Wings by Mr. Mister.  The longing look into the camera, long jacket, and messy hair.

Toys

The best selling toy of the best year ever......you guessed it Care Bears!  My parents even bought me a few when I was a baby.

In 1985 a Care Bear cost around $20, now you can only get a little Care Bear for that price.

Weather

From what my parents can remember the roads were going to freeze and according to my dad it was rainy or snowy.  The weather report for the day I was born shows a high of 34 and a low of 24 and high cold winds.  I fully understand my love for the cold now.  There was a new moon, I'll say just for me.

December 12, 1985 might not have been the best day it could have been with fashion, music, and the weather, but for me and my family it was the best possible day it could have been because that was the day I came into this world.
